Info: Steve Bug is back with a brilliant release to close 2007. In between A&Rring three labels, mixing and promoting two high profile club mix compilations, (Fuse presents Steve Bug, earlier this year and the 37th edition of fabric‘s prestigious mix series to be released in november), we are glad he has found some studio time.
“A World Without” on the a-side is what we love Steve Bug for - his analogue warm sound and his simple understated fashion but unhurried ability to bring in slowly burning intensity taking things to a different level and his talent in using minimal elements for maximum effects. The track kicks off with a subtle groovy beat plus Steve‘s vocal sample and shows him adding layer over layer of nifty sounds building up to a hypnotic groove, after which the more and more stomach punching synth kicks in - he then strips things back to the nude again in the exact right moment. The track has something magical to it from the very first beats, a sure dancefloor winner that will captivate dancers and listeners at both peaktime and after hour sets. “Cru Sauvage“ on the b-side is based on a bubbly bleepy melody, collage of deep and twisted effects grooving around the beats, heavy offbeat snares, and unexpected house chords. An impeccable production, and the perfect flipside to Steve‘s last release in 2007.

The air is filled by the smell of kebab, beer and instant love. “Zum Goldenen Handschuh” is a stunning peak time track, which unfolds his full energy on the dancefloors. “Sorgenbrecher” is the current opener of Oliver Huntemanns dj-sets. With its deep baseline it creates an atmosphere of tension and expectation.

Info: This long overdue CD compilation of Donnacha Costello's Colorseries draws on the artist's own favourite selections from the 12"s and even throws some unreleased material into the bargain. It was 2004 when Costello embarked upon the project and even after three years of rotation by DJs like Josh Wink and Loco Dice it's still a pleasure to listen through the assembled tracks.
Thanks to a mixture of digital finesse and classic analog equipment Costello's productions sound incredibly warm and soft, with the contoured bass of 'Grape A' and the bright beams of synth in 'Mustard B' still making for some immensely tactile listening. In amongst the classic techno dynamics of the series you'll also find a few opportunities for downtime ambience: the cuts from the Cocoa 12" are every bit the mug of auditory hot chocolate the title suggests, with a particularly mellifluous unreleased track making the cut, exhibiting a grip on muted, reverberant synth tones worthy of classic-era Boards Of Canada.

Putsch 79 take Will’s album cut ‘Speak & Spell’ deeper and darker but maintain Will’s original chord progression. Putsch 79 are two young Finnish freaks, rocking shit on Clone Records and beyond. Info : One half of Boxer Recordings’ Duoteque, Dusty Kid makes his Bpitch debut with ‘Luna’, and a good solid account opener it is too with a firm grasp on minimalist melodics and a warm, padded bass. The Tadeo reworking is more compressed, but with a roomier, more streamlined mix, while Lee Van Dowski rounds the 12″ off with some interesting retro-electronica filtrations that take a departure from the track’s dancefloor origins.
